A self-hostable backend, and conversations shared with your team

The Nuphos backend can now be self-hosted from public releases, teammates can join a conversation, and local sessions can come into Nuphos.

September 28–October 4 brought the first public release of the self-hosted Nuphos backend and opened conversations to the whole team. You can also bring local Claude Code and Codex sessions into Nuphos, work in split panes, and update managed agents from the app.

Self-host the backend

You can now run the Nuphos backend on your own infrastructure. It has public releases at github.com/nuphos/nuphos, with images for amd64 and arm64. If you upgrade from v0.83.0, change the image to ghcr.io/nuphos/backend. NUPHOS_RUNTIME_VERSION has been removed: unpinned managed agents now follow the latest stable runtime release, and an explicit version pin is still honored. This release also keeps image and file attachments intact all the way to the agent and in conversation history, and avoids repeated rate limits when checking Claude usage.

Shared conversations

Teammates can now join a team conversation and send messages in it. Each message shows the sender's name and avatar, including messages sent mid-turn. Credentials, Memory and approvals follow the person who sent the message, not the conversation owner.

The conversation header shows who is taking part. Use the Share menu to add a teammate or copy the link. The owner still controls the agent, model and credential selection. Conversations on a local agent stay private.

Bring your local work

  • Continue a local session: in the new-conversation composer, open the + menu and choose Continue a Claude Code session or Continue a Codex session. The session becomes a Nuphos conversation on the agent you pick.
  • Import Skills: on the Skills page, choose Import from this computer to copy a skill from ~/.claude/skills or ~/.agents/skills into the team.
  • Switch agent type: you can now move a conversation between a Claude Code agent and a Codex agent, and its full history comes with it.

Split panes

Press Cmd+D to open another conversation side by side, or Cmd+Shift+D to stack it. Each pane has its own conversation and dock tabs. Cmd+W closes the focused tab or pane. Split layouts are not yet restored after you restart the app.

Managed agent updates

Settings → Agent now compares each agent's version with the latest release. When an update is available, administrators can update a managed agent with one click. Nuphos waits for active conversations to finish first. Self-hosted agents show a changelog link and guidance for updating the host.

Signing in to a new managed agent no longer gets stuck, and new managed agents are ready sooner.

More improvements

  • Sent messages appear immediately with a Sending… hint, and the conversation stays scrolled to the bottom.
  • Rename a conversation from the sidebar, history or title bar.
  • Desktop notifications for finished and failed turns are back. They show no chat content.
  • Quota badges are back for every agent. The agent reads its own provider usage, so the token never leaves it.
  • Cloud connector setup detects a matching CLI on your computer and offers to finish setup in chat.
  • Browser, terminal and pod shell tabs in the dock keep their state when you switch conversations.
  • Conversations that share an agent no longer overwrite each other's gcloud or GitHub credentials.

Mobile

  • Sign in with an email code or a password.
  • Create or join a workspace, add a cloud agent, and upload files from the app.
  • Shared conversations show who sent each message. You can also rename chats and edit your profile.
  • Review or withdraw third-party AI data sharing consent, and request account deletion, from Account.
  • Tapping a notification no longer crashes the app.

Fixes

  • Deploying a new backend no longer interrupts turns the agent is still running.
  • A stream error no longer fails the turn. Desktop resumes the live run.
  • Local exec stays reliable when a computer reconnects.

Available in Desktop v0.72.0 and self-hosted backend v0.83.1 and later.
